The Singular Task

Jeremiah 32:39 I will give them singleness of heart and action, so that they will always fear me for their own good and the good of their children after them.

I'm not a fan of the word fear here and looked it up in the hebrew to see what it might be similar to for meaning. It just seems harsh. However, fear can mean to revere and I feel like that may be a better fit in this instance. This verse is a good reminder that we are given a singular task, to love God with all of our heart, soul, and mind. When we surrender ourselves allowing God to be our only love and we venture deeper in Him, our actions becomes of this singular focus as well. Out of the overflow of the Spirit in our hearts comes the action of love toward others. Jesus just oozes from us. As a child, I watched my parents as they grew in Jesus and learned to love Him with all of their hearts, souls, and minds. And just as this verse states, we as their children, are living in reverence of God with the same singleness of heart and action as they did and do. It is a constant daily surrender of self to love God with all of my heart, soul, and mind, but I know that He has begun this good work in me and He will complete it.

Blessed Assurance

Romans 8:38-39 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth , nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. This verse just makes me want to shout, "AMEN!" But isn't it frustrating how Satan knows exactly where to hit us to make us doubt? And then he is so good at kicking us while we are down. I, unfortunately, had this experience very recently. I was feeling a little worried about a particular situation and then Satan pounced and made me feel like an enormous loser. He was feeding me lies that he knew I would believe, because they are the same lies I always fall for. Thankfully, I was able to spend some time with God in quiet solitude. I was reminded that no matter what Satan throws at me, I will never be separated from the love of God because I have Christ Jesus...

For Mom

1 Corinthians 13:4-5 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. This is a post for Mom. She is the embodiment of these words written by Paul. When I think of Mom and who God created her to be, this is it. Each of these phrases describes her perfectly. Mom learned very early on in her walk with Jesus to let Him have His way in her life. Who she is and has been to people is the testament to that. Her patience with a super naughty 2-year old, namely me, rivaled that of Job. I don't ever remember her getting angry. Quite frankly, Mom and the word angry in the same sentence is laughable. She never bragged or boasted about us (even though we know she's proud of us) because that wouldn't be showing love to her listener. Dry Bones

Ezekiel 37:14 I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord. This is God's word through Ezekiel in the Valley of the Dry Bones. There are a couple of thoughts that come to mind with this verse. First, I have to admit that sometimes I feel as though I have dry bones. I continue on my path and lose sight of the One who brings life. At times I am surrounded by things, people, or situations that suck the life out of me and I need the breath of life from the Spirit again. It is a conscious effort for me to not involve myself in things that are life taking. I make the decision to spend alone time with Jesus in order to experience His life giving power.
