Colossians 4:6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
What does it mean to be "seasoned with salt"? There are a few references to this "salt" in the Bible. I'm going to take a practical turn on this one. Salt is a seasoning that must be added at just the right time, in just the right amount. Too much and all you taste is salt. Too little and you just plain don't want to eat your meal because there is no flavor. Added too late and you have to add more than necessary, along with the fact that the salty flavor peeks through. Added to early and it's as if you never added any to begin with. When salt is added in the right amount at the right time in the cooking process, it adds flavor without adding the taste of salt. It's a great seasoner for that reason. Salt adds depth to flavor, but it must be used with precision. Now to connect. When we converse with others and build relationships with them, we are called to share Jesus. This sharing has precise words, moments, and amounts that we must pay attention to. The only way we can add "salt" is by listening to and following the Spirit's prompting. He will give us the words we need at exactly the right moments to encourage each other and grow His kingdom. It's adding "a dash of Jesus" at just the right moment. (phrase courtesy of Liz Teel ;-D)
