The Mystery of Christ

Colossians 4:3-4 And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clear, as I should.

This is Paul's statement and yet I am thinking the exact same thing. I have been running the lyrics of a praise song in my head too. "As we enter into this mystery, overwhelmed by the power of your grace. Lead us on great Herald of our victory, to our home where we stand face to face." This verse coupled with these lyrics are truly where I am today. This journey is a mystery. The peace we feel. The joy in Christ. The waiting. The sadness of what may be. The hope of a miracle. The strength for today. The glory we see. The grace bestowed. I don't know that I can adequately explain how all of this can be or how it feels. I do know who it's from and who it's through. Jesus Christ. He is alive and living in me and in the lives of my family. God pours into us at the perfect time in the perfect amount when we need it. My only hope is that we, as a family, are able to get His message to you and that you all may have what we have been given. May God give us understanding and may the Spirit be in our conversations as we share the power, grace and glory that comes through Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior as we travel this journey.

Mercy and Compassion

Jude 22-23 Be merciful to those who doubt; snatch others from the fire and save them; to others show mercy, mixed with fear--hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh. This is something I have struggles with, loving those who frustrate me. How can we be merciful to those who are "corrupt" without being judgmental? It is definitely not our place to judge one another, it is our place to love one another. Sometimes loving the people who are rude or cruel is the hardest part of being a Christian. My humanity would like to judge people for their behaviors and choices and lash out at them. I believe we are only able to show true mercy and compassion for others when we accept these for ourselves from Jesus and then He lives them through us. Allowing God to change our hearts in order that Jesus' mercy and compassion shine through is a journey. It's not always easy. For Mom

1 Corinthians 13:4-5 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. This is a post for Mom. She is the embodiment of these words written by Paul. When I think of Mom and who God created her to be, this is it. Each of these phrases describes her perfectly. Mom learned very early on in her walk with Jesus to let Him have His way in her life. Who she is and has been to people is the testament to that. Her patience with a super naughty 2-year old, namely me, rivaled that of Job. I don't ever remember her getting angry. Quite frankly, Mom and the word angry in the same sentence is laughable. She never bragged or boasted about us (even though we know she's proud of us) because that wouldn't be showing love to her listener. My Friend, Jesus

John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. I had a conversation with my sister once upon a time and she asked me this question. "Who is Jesus to you?" I told her, "He is my friend." Of course Jesus is many things to me; Lord, Savior, King, and so on, but when I talk with Jesus, I talk to Him as my friend. He and I work together to accomplish the will of the Father. When I pray to Jesus, I use a very familiar tone that is comfortable and easy. He is someone I feel very close to and have an overwhelming sense of comfort and calm. I am content to sit with Him and say nothing, which is sometimes the most enjoyable. You've got friends you can do that with. You know, friends that you don't have to fill every bit of silence with something. That's how I Jesus and I are.
