Confidence in God

1 Samuel 17:32 David said to Saul, "Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him."

David's confidence is apparent in this story.  He knows how God has prepared him for this battle.  He shares with Saul his story of the lion and the bear to instill Saul's confidence in him as well.  David boldly takes to the battlefield, not only because of his prior experience but also because he knows God is on his side.  We can learn something from David's confidence in God.  What trials are you going through right now?  Has God given you any prior preparation that would help you in your situation?  So often we don't realize the moments of preparation until we see them in hindsight.  Do you have confidence in God to carry you through?  I think my biggest struggle today is my confidence in God.  Not because I don't think He can carry me through, but more because I just have no idea what direction we are going.  I feel a little like I am wandering in the dessert.  I'm hoping I can think back and identify some of the preparation God has given me for this time.  If so, I believe I will have a better understanding of where He is leading me.   At any rate, David's confidence is empowering.  Do not lose heart.  God is on your side!

Mercy and Compassion

Jude 22-23 Be merciful to those who doubt; snatch others from the fire and save them; to others show mercy, mixed with fear--hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh. For Mom

1 Corinthians 13:4-5 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. This is a post for Mom.  She is the embodiment of these words written by Paul.  When I think of Mom and who God created her to be, this is it.  Each of these phrases describes her perfectly.  Mom learned very early on in her walk with Jesus to let Him have His way in her life.  Who she is and has been to people is the testament to that.  Her patience with a super naughty 2-year old, namely me, rivaled that of Job.  I don't ever remember her getting angry.  Quite frankly, Mom and the word angry in the same sentence is laughable.  She never bragged or boasted about us (even though we know she's proud of us) because that wouldn't be showing love to her listener.  Mom was never rude, she was always serving others, and she was never jud...

My Friend, Jesus

John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. I had a conversation with my sister once upon a time and she asked me this question.  "Who is Jesus to you?"  I told her, "He is my friend."  Of course Jesus is many things to me; Lord, Savior, King, and so on, but when I talk with Jesus, I talk to Him as my friend.  He and I work together to accomplish the will of the Father.  When I pray to Jesus, I use a very familiar tone that is comfortable and easy.  He is someone I feel very close to and have an overwhelming sense of comfort and calm.  I am content to sit with Him and say nothing, which is sometimes the most enjoyable.  You've got friends you can do that with.  You know, friends that you don't have to fill every bit of silence with something.  That's how I Jesus and I are.  We can sit and not talk or anything and just be together.  I like that.  So today I ask you, who is Jesu...
